Speirs Gumley Stand Up To Cancer

untitledWe held our 3rd annual Stand Up To Cancer comedy fundraiser on Friday 17th October .  The brilliant Raymond Mearns returned to host the event and was joined by some of the countries top comedians, Phil Differ, Scott Gibson, Viv Gee and Gary Meikle each of them giving up their time for free to help us reach our fundraising target.

We held our first comedy fundraiser in 2012 which raised £3000, last year we achieved a total of £4000 so this year we pulled out all the stops to go even better.  Our staff and guests had a fantastic day raising funds and awareness for this amazing cause and, due to the generosity of everyone in attendance, we raised an incredible £6297.70.

Rowan Main, Local Fundraising Manager for Cancer Research UK, said, “I’m simply delighted at the astonishing success of Speirs Gumley’s SU2C event! What an amazingly funny afternoon and raised a fabulous £6297.70. Speirs Gumley are helping to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured by bringing everyone together, putting the fun in fundraising.”

We would like to thank everyone who participated and contributed to the huge success of the event.

Major Repairs Scheme gets underway

130814 (5) - CopyOne of the most prominent buildings in the Finnieston area is to undergo a major repairs scheme following the success of our Residential Management team securing grant funding from Glasgow City Council on behalf of the property owners.

Significant works were required to the building and while the property owners were keen to proceed the costs involved were proving prohibitive.  Our repairs team and property inspector worked closely with the owners and Glasgow City Council resulting in substantial funding being secured which has now allowed the works to go ahead.

Recent reports such as the Glasgow Factoring Commission findings published in January of this year have recognised that there has been a general deterioration of buildings in the city due to under investment from property owners.  As property managers we will do whatever we can to ensure buildings are maintained to the highest possible standard however ultimately if there is a lack of funds then works may not proceed.

The success of this repairs scheme shows that by working together owners, property managers and local authorities can ensure that essential works are carried out which will not only protect the owners’ investment but also help maintain the outstanding heritage of our city.

commonwealth games – traffic management

Gymnastics Green 2The excitement is building as we welcome the 2014 Commonwealth Games to Glasgow.  This will be an incredible event for the city and we are looking forward to a jam packed 11 days of sport and festivities.  We have two members of staff involved in the games, Yvette Hutcheson is a Clydesider and Cheryl Dearie is part of the cast performing at the opening ceremony; we know both will be fantastic in their roles at Scotland’s biggest ever sporting event.

During the games there will be up to 1 million people travelling to and from areas in and around Glasgow so the transport network is going to be much busier. Some road and parking restrictions will be in place which may affect our usual response times.  We have been preparing and planning for the impact the games will have for a number of months and have been in contact with our approved contractors to ask that they ensure they are familiar with all traffic restrictions so that any impact on response times is minimal.  Further information on traffic management plans can be found at www.getreadyglasgow.com.

The 2014 Commonwealth Games will be incredible and we can’t wait for them to get started.

speirs gumley appointed to manage one of Glasgows most iconic buildings

Glasgow-The-Willow-Tea-Room-JC-2007-IMG_9592-300x225The new Celia Sinclair Charitable Trust has acquired the Category-A listed Willow Tea Rooms and has appointed Speirs Gumley to manage the building.

The Willow Tea Rooms is one of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s most famous creations and attracts many tourists every year to see the outstanding architecture and incredible interior design of the building.

In a recent interview Ms Sinclair said “The Willow Tea Rooms is an iconic building and I couldn’t simply stand by and watch it deteriorate. I’m a proud Glaswegian and I want to see its heritage preserved for the generations to come.

I started this project over a year ago. The recent tragic fire at the Glasgow School of Art has underlined to me, and others, that we really do need to act to safeguard what remains of Mackintosh’s work.

The Trust will ensure that after the renovation work the building will be financially secure and that due care and attention will be given to the building forever.”

We are dedicated to maintaining the heritage of our great city and are extremely proud that the Charitable Trust have recognised that appointing Speirs Gumley will ensure this magnificent building will receive the care and attention needed to restore it to its former glory.

The Willow Tea Rooms is a welcome addition to our growing portfolio of properties of architectural and historical significance which include Dalzell House in Motherwell, Kingston House in Edinburgh and Merchant Hall, The Merchants House and The Beresford Building in Glasgow among many others.
